"Come Celebrate our NEW STUDIO"

Open Studio and Trunk Show featuring Owen Sea Luckey, a textile artist and Kristin Merrill, a jeweler and sculptor. While the lines and structure of Owen Sea Luckey's creations are familiar she pushes the boundaries of what you expect, incorporating holes, bright pops of color and funky embellishments.Those eclectic interests and skills weave together to become RE-DO, a line of whimsical re-imagined sweaters. Luckey transforms recycled garments into wearable art using traditional craft techniques— knitting, felting, sewing, embroidery. Each one-of-a-kind sweater enjoys unique embellishments: antique buttons; repurposed fabrics; hand-knit accents."I love to create one-of-a-kind pieces that people can't wait to wear, " Owen says. Kristin Merrill's sculptures incorporate pieces of driftwood indigenous to the Short Beach shoreline. To them she adorns pearls, hand-cast sterling elements, copper and symbolic found objects. "The driftwood goes through a metamorphosis at the end of its life and falls into the sea, and finds its way to the shore. By resurrecting it in my sculptures, I create a new phase in its life". The same transformation echoes in her jewelry, where individual elements - sterling silver, semiprecious stones, amber, pearls, and driftwood - join together to become something new and different. Celebrate both artist's new studio at an opening "Prosecco & Pizza!" party on Friday, December 14 from 5 to 8 pm. Open House Saturday, December 15 from 10 am to 4 pm. December hours are December 4, 6, 11, 13, 18 and 20 from 10 am to 2 pm, or by appointment. Free and open to the public. 181 Main Street, Branford. 203-481-1100. www.owensealuckey.com, www.kristinmerrill.com

low ponytail with bump

I just love this hairstyle. Wish I'd seen this picture before my wedding because this would have been a perfect option for my wedding day.  But, it's never too late to recreate the look! I would first create loose curls in second day hair, then tease at the crown of the head with a backcomb and secure a side pony with a clear elastic band and go around it with a strand of hair, that can be secured with a bobby pin.

weekend

I had a little stressful week and I'm so excited for a long weekend.  Can't wait to sleep in late, finish reading my book and drink lots of tea (I've been into teas a lot recently).  Aside from all this, my goal is to find a gift for my mom - it's her birthday next week.  But I'm not sure what to get her...she loves baking and she likes to write...maybe I can get her a pretty journal? What do you usually get your mom on her birthday?

Happy long weekend!

Warm Embrace...

{1,2}

I hope you are all having a wonderful start of Monday. My weekend was busy and exciting! On Sunday afternoon we decided to check out the Power of Chocolate festivities at the Smithsonian Native American museum and got caught in a crazy blizzard snow/rain on our walk over there. Once inside the museum though, the smell of freshly ground cocoa beans and brewing hot chocolate instantly warmed me up. After all the chocolate talk, smell and tasting I crave chocolate brownies! So, that's what I will be making on Valentine's day. We don't really celebrate the holiday but I like to at least bake something sweet for my sweetheart. I hope you are all having fun plans ahead and can share this holiday with a loved one...
xx

It's been my dream for many years now to visit Portugal! I know a little bit about this country thanks to my adventurous dad who has traveled there and has instilled in me the desire to see this beautiful country. Maybe one day, very soon, I'll make my dream come true...but meanwhile, let's enjoy these scenic photographs and travel in time to Portugal!
